26 – The Seven Steps
Hey folks, Kalin here – for the last few pages I haven’t been able to figure out how to make the comic open it’s larger version when clicked on, so if you do want to look at the details, for now please just open the image in a new tab. I will talk with Neil and see if we can’t fix this.
Enjoy your Illumination!
Absolutely awesome!
Thank you for the tip, Kalin, the larger version is indeed gorgeous!
And Aelwrin’s transformation is now guided by Jat-Eel fully transformed into the goddess?
“I defeated Wakboth and exchanged places with him…” That’s one way of looking at it, I suppose…
“I freed Nysalor from Gbaji…” I’d love to hear an Arkati commentary on this…
Very nice.
But… given how no one really knows whether it was Gbaji or Arkat who emerged victorious from their final battle, who can be really certain if it was Gbaji or Arkat the Goddess freed, and even more… who or what emerged from the second conflict between the Goddess and Wakboth.
In the Lives of Sedenya, the deities in the picture had different names.

Terra – that is one version of the story. This is the goddess quest experienced by Jar-eel, grand-daughter and incarnation of the Red Goddess, and several other New Gods, and known throughout the Lunar Empire.
Looking at Kalin’s (once again excellent) art, the ambusher was Arkat/Gbaji rather than the Wakboth from last week.
Overcoming the guardian of the Hero Plane was a required last step to bring back change into the middle world, wasn’t it?
This quest looks a lot softer than the seven tablets of Teelo Estara, which had the exposure to Chaos just like Arachne Solara had in the Ritual of the Net, only without the Net.
What script is used on the seven medaillons? It doesn’t bear any similarity to the Dara Happan alphabet.
Well, I recognize the Gene Day rune in each inscription…

Mmmm… Wakboth cake!
Excellent work man! This series is perfect for portraying the concepts/”mythic reality (or realities)” contained within any Heroquest to any player new to the world of Glorantha. Have already told my friends to check out the strip before we start our campaign. Please keep bringing us more of this great story! 🙂
OK, we get it, you know how to heroquest. Wadda ya want, a freaking medal?
I don’t think she’d refuse one.
“I AM is an illusion”.. unless it’s me who’s saying it – in which case it’s ok :p
Q: is the –> type rune indicative of a causal connection? And, thus, the runes depicted actually do have a meaning that you have already decided upon? It looks/reads sort of like “I did this, and thus added these symbols to my name”…
1st event: “‘me’ (symbol) –> (did something) new name/symbol (diamond/cross thing”.
2nd event “me with new name symbol (diamond/cross thing) –> (did something) over cloudy (symbol for bear)’
3rd event “me (diamond/cross) … adds new name symbol (S with dots).
4th – same as 2nd but using a combined symbology of her new name…
etc etc.
