85 – Marching orders
Sorry for the delay, everyone! Unfortunately, it’s quite possible more of these will happen during October, due to various non-comic related reasons.

I’m just glad for regular updates again!
I’m just glad for CRADLE BATTLE
My favourite is the rastafarian.
I’m guessing he’s more of an Indian Sadhu, but there could be multiple influences.
Who are all these characters? Humakti Death Lord, shaman guy, rope beard, and a member of the Loyal Order of Water Buffalos?
Typo: “Killing anything and everythingT”. Also, aren’t both words of Rune Lord capitalized in RQ canon?
From the spoilers everyone keeps dropping in the comments, it seems our heroes are underleveled for what’s coming up. I have no idea what’s going to happen but it seems everyone else does. Can we get a “spoiler” tag in comments so these people can chat about the comic without ruining it for everyone else?
I am appalled by this vicious anti-Lunar propaganda!
There are a ton of people in this defense force – “half the priests and masters, and all of the Rune Lords” still leaves enough for “six groups of five or six each” to be led by Argrath’s officers, plus Argrath himself and the three newcomers. Napkin math says that’s 90-some people (~33 priests/masters, plus 6 officers to lead them, plus another ~33 priests/masters in the Argrath group, plus ~10 lords, plus Argrath, plus the three is 86, and that’s pretty much a minimum number – that’s 10 lords to 66 priests/masters, which seems off)
Epic battle scene coming up. Kalin has a lot of work to do!
It’s likely that many present are neither priests/masters nor Rune Lords. If there were, say, three Rune Lords and six priests/masters, the whole group would number in the forties.
I’m curious. To what extent are these episodes a fictionalization of generalized Gloranthan history and to what extent are they chronicles of game sessions? Not that it interferes with my enjoyment of the vivid way this web comic is bringing Glorantha to life either way. 🙂
Well, it’s not really that simple to answer. After all, Glorantha is a roleplaying world (sure, it might not have been created as primarily such, but it has been one for decades now), and campaigns and play sessions influence the overall story of the setting, and vice versa. In this chapter in particular,
I don’t think any of this is based on anyone’s specific game, but it’s still based on the Cradle scenario, which a lot of people have played over the years. I’m no tone of those people, as I got into the setting way later, however the three adventurers we’ve been following around are actually characters from a play-by-post game I ran on a forum a few years ago. The story simply called for three PCs to be in it, and I figured these would do.
It still says “everythingt” in the bottom panel.
Du calme, my friend.
Carping on small details like this can only slow his creative process which would, IMHO, be a bad thing.
Was that game on Something Awful? Would you happen to have a link?
It was! And I do! http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3617425 Here you go. It’s not really a typical RPG session, it was more of a Chose Your Own Adventure kind of game, however several of the secondary characters were actually made by other people, not me.
This webcomic is truly beautiful. I’m planning to start a campaign soon and want to use it to orient them to Glorantha without overwhelming them with all the books. A picture is worth a thousand words…
Thank you! I wish you good luck with the campaign, and do post some feedback on how well using the comic worked with introducing your players to aspects of Glorantha.
